Holmes County was formed in 1824. It was named after Major Holmes, a military officer of the war of 1812. The County seat is Millersburg. Holmes County is home to one of the largest populations of Amish in the United States. Click here to learn more about Homes County Ohio.

The present airport was dedicated in March of 1962. Its operation is under the control of the Holmes County Airport Authority (HCAA). Since its dedication, continuous improvements have been made. The next major improvement will be relocation and lengthening of the runway to allow operation of small executive jets.

In 2009, management was turned over to a father and son team of Lellan and David McFarland.
